Suffragette Art Nouveau 9ct Gold Pendant & 9ct Gold Chain -1890’s, Period Box
AN ART NOUVEAU PERIOD SUFFRAGETTE 9CT YELLOW GOLD PENDANT & 9CT CHAIN – C1890S PERIOD BOX. STUNNING GIVE WOMEN THE VOTE. It is set with sparking crystals of Peridot, Amethyst and clear and also decorated with seed pearls. The chain is 9ct gold and the barrel & screw clasp is a later replacement and is not gold. The pendant is marked 9ct. The 9ct gold chain is not marked but tests as 9ct gold. It has a charming period patina. This type pendant is exceptionally rare todays market and were not available commercially in period, so many would have been adapted from period brooches & pendants by jobbing jewellers, resulting in some unusual designs and a large range of styles. This brooch or pendant is of good quality, so a rare survivor? The glass stones featured are Peridot for Green, Amethyst for Violet, clear crystal for White, supposedly symbolizing the Suffragette movements mantra, Give Women the Vote? These colours were first adopted in C1900 and the colours represent G reen for Hope, W hite for purity and V iolet for dignity. Is in the classic period floral design and is fashioned in 9ct gold. It is strung with a very decorative fancy chain with an excellent safety clasp. The chain is not marked, but tests in excess of 9ct. The chain measures 16 in length including clasp. The pendant measures 2.0 in length including bale and drop pendant, so a total length of nearly 21.5 The pendant is 1.0 wide and is marked 9ct to the rear. It has an outstanding period patina and has been well loved in the past. Is a charming vintage retailers box in faux cream leatherette and has a cream velvet pad and satin interior. It has a good hidden clasp. It is in vintage condition 2 and shows age related wear to both interior and exterior and has faded over time. This item is in antique condition 1. There is only age related wear present and the metal work is in excellent condition. There is some surface scratching to the larger glass crystals and some age related delamination to the metal work including minor marking to the metal, which does not detract from the items charm or wear ability. The markings are claerly visible. All of the seed pearls are present and in good order. The chain is 9ct gold is in good order, but the barrel and screw clasp is a replacement.
